- The New Zealand fur seal, (Arctocephalus forsteri), occurs around most coastal areas of New Zealand. Breeding grounds are- now primarily found along the west and southern coasts of the South Island, as wefl as on Stewart Island and the Chatham and sub-Antarctic Islands
