Summary
Further information on current legislation in New Zealand covering biocontrol, and the introduction of exotic biota is presented. The history of DSIR's gorse biocontrol programme is reviewed and an account is given of a detailed evaluation by DSIR of the environmental impact of proposed biocontrols. It is concluded that the potential benefits substantially outweigh possible costs and application will be made for permission to introduce and release suitable gorse biocontrol agents.
