Summary
The coastal environment forms an essential part of New Zealander’s national identity. In addition to the significant recreational, aesthetic and conservation benefits, the coastal environment also provides an ever important economic resource. Yet, as with other countries, New Zealand more than ever before is facing growing concerns over the continued degradation of its coastline in light of these competing demands.
