- Summary
- The operational efficiency of the river mouth port of Westport, New Zealand, is frequently restricted by bar formations at the entrance. A number of possible options for improving the entrance conditions are evaluated in light of the findings of a comprehensive investigation of sediment behaviour in the entrance area. The option that appears to offer the best prospect is littoral drift modification by construction of an offshore breakwater on the updrift side of the harbour entrance.
