Summary
Greater Wellington Regional Council (Greater Wellington) and the territorial authorities across the Wellington region recognise the significance of climate change for the region and the importance of understanding the vulnerability of the region’s coastal communities to climate change. As a result, the Wellington Region Climate Change Working Group (WRCCWG) was established in 2017 and, in early 2018, agreed to progress towards a better understanding of this issue. A sub-group of the Wellington Region Climate Change Working Group was established to: “Prepare a specific plan for a community-led coastal adaptation planning process for the region with governance, resourcing, timeline, regional buy-in and recommended priority areas to be submitted for agreement by councils and the Mayoral Forum prior to commencement of the programme.”
