Summary
The report is prepared in response to a request from the District Commissioner of Works, Wellington District Office of MWD (10 June 1986), on the likely impacts on the coastline of developing alternative routes for State Highway between Paremata and Paekakariki. The statements that follow are based on a site inspection made of the area on Monday 16 June 1986, discussions with staff involved in the project and the limited local knowledge of the writer. The statements are qualitative only and are constrained by the limited time made available and the urgency of the project. It is clear, however, that to fully evaluate the impacts of the proposed routes on both the living and non-living coastal and estuarine resources of the sites, further baseline scientific investigations are required.
