- A contract report to Waikouaitit and Karitane Beautification Society and Dunedin City Council Recreation and Planning Department. DSIR Land Resources Dunedin were approached by Mr J. Dougherty of the Waikouaiti and Karitane Beautification Society to provide guidance on the restoration of native vegetation on sand dunes and around the Hawkesbury Lagoon, Waikouaiti, east Otago. Mr M. Reece of the Dunedin Recreation and Planning Department confirmed that the Dunedin City Council were responsible for funding the project. Following preliminary discussions with Mr Dougherty regarding the objectives of the exercise and the nature of the site, I visited the area briefly on July 17 1991 to gain an impression of the habitats and vegetation.
