- This Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) commissioned study on Rural Community Resilience and Climate Change uses information from case studies and focus groups to examine: • sector and individual views on climate change • case study communities’ awareness of climate change • perspectives on resilience (key aspects of resilience important to New Zealand’s rural communities) • characteristics of resilient rural communities, and barriers to resilience • measures to maintain and enhance rural community resilience in the face of climate change, including actions already being taken to adapt to climate change, examples of community initiatives to maintain and enhance resilience, and measures which could be taken in future to enhance resilience.
